Born in 1956. Graduated from Japan Women’s University Graduate School in 1981. Established Kazuyo Sejima & Associates in 1987. Founded SANAA with Ryue Nishizawa in 1995. She currently serves as professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan, visiting professor at Japan Women’s University, visiting professor at Osaka University of Arts, honorary professor at Yokohama National University, and director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum. Notable works by Kazuyo Sejima & Associates include the Saishunkan Seiyaku Women’s Dormitory, House in a Plum Grove, Inujima Art House project, Sumida Hokusai Museum, and the Japan Women’s University Mejiro Campus.

Architectural office SANAA has received numerous awards, including the Golden Lion for the most significant work in the 9th Biennale di Venezia International Exhibition of Architecture in 2004, the 2010 Pritzker Architecture Prize, and the Praemium Imperiale for Architecture (1999). Major works include the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa; the New Museum (USA); the Rolex Learning Center (Switzerland); the Louvre-Lens (France); Grace Farms (USA); Shogin Tact Tsuruoka; Hitachi City Hall (Japan); Bocconi University’s New Urban Campus (Italy); La Samaritaine (France); and the Sydney Modern Project (Australia).
