Born in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture in 1974. Established UID in 2003. Based in his hometown of Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, his “interlocal” design work for architecture, gardens, and cities explores spaces that integrate interiors and exteriors in Japan and overseas.
In Fukuyama City, he was awarded the Dedalo Minosse International Prize – Occam Under 40 (Italy) for his Holocaust Education Center, while his Peanuts building at the Kodomoen Tsukushi Children’s Center won the Association for Children’s Environment Design Award (2012) and the Japan Association of Architectural Firms’ Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Award (2013). He also won a Good Design Gold Award (Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award, 2017) for his Funamachi Street Arcade Renovation Project -Tori-Cho Street Garden. His mixed-use space santo was awarded an Annual Architectural Design Commendation by the Architectural Institute of Japan (2024). Other awards include a Gold Medal in the 11th ARCASIA Awards for Architecture, the 24th Japan Institute of Architecture’s Newcomer Award, selection for Design Vanguard 2014 (USA), and the Architectural Review (AR) House Award (UK).
