Exhibition Concept
Aizenso (year of construction unknown) was built by Yoichiemon Fujii, the 12th head of Kuroganeya, a wealthy merchant in Fukuyama. Around 1932, Yoichiemon’s younger brother, architect Koji Fujii, added a sunroom that replicated his own residence, Chochikukyo. However, the residence was soon forgotten and was not rediscovered until 77 years later when it had become severely dilapidated. In 2013, it was rejuvenated as a multipurpose venue under the name Ushiroyama Sanso. The project was made possible with the help of many collaborators and was completed in accordance with a plan by architect Keisuke Maeda. This exhibition tells the century-long story of Fukuyama-native Koji Fujii and his architecture.
