Exhibition Concept
Onomichi boasts a wide range of architectural styles—from ancient national treasures, important cultural properties, and the latest modern buildings to anonymous buildings with no names. Different architecture from different eras is integrated into the fabric of the city. Photographer Yurika Kono focuses on “reflections” of Onomichi’s architecture, including Jodoji Temple and the Souraiken Garden, in a fresh and contemporary style. Her photographs reflect the perspectives of those who lived in Onomichi in the past for the sake of those who will inhabit the town 100 years from now. In this exhibition viewers themselves will become the mirror, conveying the story of Onomichi’s architecture.
