Venue Overview
LLOVE HOUSE ONOMICHI is located halfway up the hill that leads up to Senkoji Park, and on the opposite side of the stairs to LOG. It is adjacent to the row house where the author Naoya Shiga once lived. Architect Jo Nagasaka immediately fell in love with this 110-year-old vacant residence and purchased it himself. After renovating it, he turned it into a new center for cultural exchange known as LLOVE HOUSE ONOMICHI, in 2022. It is currently temporarily used for an artist-in-residence program, welcoming creators from around the world to exhibit works related to architecture, design, and art.
LLOVE HOUSE ONOMICHI is open from October 4 (Sat.) to 13 (Mon., holiday) and from November 22 (Sat.) to 30 (Sun.).
* A presentation session by approximately 40 current and former staff will be open to the public on October 4 (Sat.) and October 5 (Sun.).
* Ahead of the opening of the exhibition, a presentation session will be held on October 3 (Fri.) as a related program. Admission is free of charge and on a first-come, first-served basis (no Exhibition Passport or pre-registration required).

Architectural Highlights
Design: Jo Nagasaka / Schemata Architects (Renovated in 2022). Back when Onomichi flourished as a transportation hub, local merchants built villas on the hillside where they could entertain guests. This 110-year-old Japanese house, which has now been renovated, was one of them. Features preserved in the renovation include openings overlooking the Onomichi Channel, verandas that open widely onto the garden, and the study off the tatami room. Architect Nagasaka “renovated the space with the aim of making it suitable for exhibitions, deliberately minimizing traces architectural intervention to maintain a neutral state, while focusing on necessary repairs to damaged columns, walls, plumbing fixtures, and other areas with defects or inconveniences for daily life.” The result is a venue grounded in the Onomichi scenery that also connects with creatives from around the world.
